The Eastern Corps (Східний корпус) is a (Pro-Ukraine) Volunteer Battalion formed in 2014 by members of the Eastern Corps Movement and Patriot of Ukraine organisations, the unit was a part of the Ukrainian Special Tasks Patrol Police:
The company was formed on the basis of the public movement “Eastern Corps” , which was created at the beginning of the armed aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine in February-March 2014 2 . The “Eastern Corps” movement was started by the founders, Oleg Shiryaev, Igor Martynenko, and Anatoliy Sydorenko, as an association of citizens whose goal was to oppose separatism in Kharkiv and help the military of the Ukrainian army. The unit was commanded by Serhii Tamarin, formed with the intention of supporting the Black Corps (later known as the Azov Battalion) in the Kharkiv region:
After returning from the front, Tamarin joined the ” East ” special unit of the Ministry of Internal Affairs created at the end of 2014 , the purpose of which was to ensure a reliable rear in Kharkiv after the “little black men” left there. From 2017 to 2019, he was its head. The special unit was formed exclusively from volunteers .
In 2018 the group was reformed as the East Special Purpose Company.
