Yevgeny Prigozhin (Евгений Пригожин) is the former owner of the Wagner Group PMC and was a co leader of the group alongside Dmitry Utkin. Although no signs emerged of him being an advocate of far-right/Neo-Nazi ideology himself, he gladly associated himself with Utkin and defended him after his Nazi iconography was exposed by journalists and seemingly ignored blatant Nazi influence in the ranks.
Like Utkin he and his fighters were initially celebrated as heroes by the Russian government, but this progressively weakened as he became more and more critical of the military and the handling of the war effort in 2022 and 2023, this culminated in him launching a coup attempt against the Russian leadership, taking control of the southern city of Rostov while sending a convoy of Wagner troops towards Moscow. The attempt ended after Prigozhin agreed to withdraw before his convoy reached the city. Prigozhin then focused on Wagner’s efforts in Africa, but was killed in a plane crash alongside Utkin and other Wagner officials months after.
