https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/49th_Infantry_Battalion_(Ukraine) The Carpathian Sich 49th Infantry Battalion (49-й окремий піхотний батальйон «Карпатська Січ») is a (Pro-Ukraine) Volunteer Battalion created as a reformation of the Svoboda Party’s Sich Battalion, a former unit of the Ukrainian Special Tasks Police.

Take 49th Infantry was formed following the 2022 invasion of Ukraine by veterans of the original Sich Battalion, in particular the Battalion’s leader Oleg Kutsyn, a Svoboda Party member and the leader of its “Legion of Freedom”, Kutsyn was later killed in combat according to Ukrainian sources.

The Battalion was incorporated into the Ukrainian Army during the war:

It is known that Kutsyn created a volunteer battalion in 2014, and later turned it into one of the most combat-capable units in the Armed Forces. Since the beginning of the full-scale Russian aggression on February 24, 2022, indifferent people without combat experience and volunteers from other countries have rallied around the veterans of the “ODCH Karpatska Sich”, creating a volunteer battalion. They defended Kyiv, held positions in Irpin, Romanivka, Stoyanka and in the Brovary direction. After the deoccupation of the Kyiv region, the unit performs tasks in the Izyum direction.

On May 19, 2022, part of the volunteer battalion “ODCH Karpatska Sich” joined the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine as the 49th separate infantry battalion of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine “Karpatska Sich”.

Some of the unit’s membership originates from the Svoboda linked youth group Sokil:

Activists of “Sokol” are or were in the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine , the National Guard , volunteer battalions of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine , [OUN](https://uk.wikipedia.org/wiki/%D0%91%D0%B0%D1%82%D0%B0%D0%BB%D1%8C%D0%B9%D0%BE%D0%BD_%C2%AB%D0%9E%D0%A3%D0%9D%C2%BB ""OUN” battalion”) and DUK , or they materially help the front. In the “Karpatska Sich” company and the “Sich” battalion , two squads were created, which were formed from “Sokol” activists 9.
