The Rise Above Movement is a Neo-Nazi street gang founded by Robert Rundo, it is affiliated with the Wotanjugend (Russian) network1 and the Azov Movement2, with Rundo also co-hosting a podcast with Russian Neo-Nazi and leader of the Russian Volunteer Corps militiant group Denis Nikitin.
The gang were prosecuted for violence at a “Unite the Right” rally in the US city of Charlottesville, the case was initially dropped after the FBI had utilised parts of an anti-riot law that was deemed unconstitutional for their case, but was resumed after the case was refiled without using these provisions.
Rundo has cited Azov as a key influence, calling them “my inspiration for everything”, in an attempt to distance the movement from him Azov representative Olena Semenyaka stated that there was “no evidence” that Azov had played a part in radicalising the RAM, but quickly after admitted that its membership had come to Ukraine and spent time with the movement to “learn our ways”.
