The Ukrainian National Guard (Націона́льна гва́рдія Украї́ни) is a military body under the control of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defence, it was one of three bodies created to incorporate groups of unofficial (Pro-Ukraine) Volunteer Battalions into the government’s legal structure, the others being the Ukrainian Special Tasks Patrol Police controlled by the Ukrainian Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Territorial Defence Battalions of the Ukrainian Army, also controlled by the Ministry of Defence.
Examples of Volunteer Battalions inducted into the National Guard are the Azov Brigade, formed from the Azov Battalion of the Special Tasks Patrol Police, and its splinter group the Lubart Brigade (both part of the Azov Corps).
