The Azov Engineering Group (Інженерна група «Азов») was an affiliate of the Azov Battalion (and its successor the Azov Regiment - later renamed to Azov Brigade) formed in May 2014, they operated out of an industrial plant seized by the Brigade (then a Regiment) known as ATEK.

The group’s logo was a UFO beneath a Black Sun, according to Ukrainian wiki this logo was a: “neo -Nazi occult symbol associated with the myth of Nazi UFOs.”

In 2016 the Engineering Group split from Azov and renamed itself to the “Arey” Engineering Group (Інженерна група «Арей»), as a result they were evicted from the ATEK plant by the National Corps, they then took on contracts with the Ukrainian Defence Ministry:

The “Azov Movement” does not comment on the reasons why the “Engineering Group” left the territory of the enterprise and why they broke off cooperation with the “Charitable Fund of Educational Innovations”. Rodion Kudryashov assures that he does not even know where exactly the 19th workshop is located, where the Azovets tank was built.

Zvarich is also not in the mood to talk about the reasons for the breakup. We meet in a workshop in the suburbs of Kyiv, “Engineering Group”, having changed its name from “Azov” to “Arey”, uses it to work on a joint project with the Ministry of Defense to modernize the BRDM.

“We had purely ideological differences. I insisted that “Azov” should be subordinated to the Ministry of Defense, not the Ministry of Internal Affairs, besides, I was against the development of a political movement based on it. I didn’t like that they were spending money to renovate their “hub”. But I was sure that these were some internal things ,” explains Zvarych, trying to change the topic of conversation to plans for the development of the production of armored vehicles.”

As an original Azov affiliate, the Group could be considered part of the Azov Movement until its reformation as “Arey”.
