The Ukrainian National Assembly – Ukrainian People’s Self-Defence (Українська Національна Асамблея-Українська Народна Самооборона) (can be shortened as UNA-UNSO/УНА-УНСО or UNA-UPSD) is a political and militant movement formed shortly before Ukrainian independence in 1990.
In 2014 some of its sects later with Right Sector, although the organisation as a whole currently still exists independently.
During the Euromaidan uprising, it was a constituent of the National Resistance Headquarters, the militant street wing for the Euromaidan movement.
Some members fought with Azov Battalion and Ukrainian Volunteer Corps after the breakout of the Donbas war, as well as forming their own UNSO units, including the 131st Separate Reconnaissance Battalion and 55th Territorial Defence Battalion1:
After Russia’s transition to an open, albeit undeclared, offensive in the spring of 2014, UNSO residents go east to the eastern territories of Ukraine as part of battalions «DUK», «Aidar», «Azov», «Donbas». . It was also formed UNSO volunteer battalion, which has become part of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Since October 2014, the fighters of the battalion have been performing combat missions in the ATO zone near Mariupol and in other hot spots.
Dmytro Korchinsky was a co-founder and leader of the movement, but later split off and formed his own party, Brotherhood.
