The Sheikh Mansur Battalion (officially the “Peacekeeping Battalion named after Sheikh Mansur”/Чеченский миротворческий батальон имени шейха Мансура) is a (Pro-Ukraine) Volunteer Battalion formerly affiliated with the Ukrainian Volunteer Corps of the Right Sector:

Chechen volunteers defending Ukraine from the Russian-terrorist horde have repeatedly proved that they are brave and strong warriors.

They do not hide that they are fighting in Ukraine for their country’s freedom. It will be recalled that the Chechen Battalion of Sheikh Mansour (BSM) is fighting in the units of the DUK PS.

In 2021, the militia was sanctioned by the Ukrainian government., which resulted in former Right Sector leader Dymtro Yarosh threatening the Ukrainian authorities on his Facebook page:

Information has come that our Brothers in Arms from the Volunteer Battalion have been included in the “NSDC sanctions lists”. Sheikh Mansour… Our Chechen Brothers.

If we have to use force to protect them, we will do it…

The militia is comprised of expats from Chechnya, a region of Russia, opposed to the Chechen Government of Ramzan Kadyrov and the Russian Government of Vladimir Putin, the group hopes to launch an insurgency inside Chechnya itself, with the goal of Chechen independence.
